Safety

We build safety
into everything we do

Our safety vision

At BGC, we set the benchmark when it comes to driving continual improvement in safety for our employees and our customers. Our approach to health and safety is open and collaborative, and we constantly identify new elements of a highly effective safety culture in team discussions.

Our goal is to eliminate injuries, and every member of the BGC team is personally invested in this. Our safety systems provide a clear set of expectations for managing risk. This includes our BGC Life Saving Standards, which set out mandatory requirements for anyone conducting activities that involve critical safety risks.

Automated Surveys

Looking out for others.

We do not allow our team to conduct work that may endanger their health and safety.

People vs Plant.

We do not operate mobile plant and equipment fully unless trained, authorised and competent.

Working at heights.

We always use fall protection equipment when working at height.

Isolation.

We ensure that stored energy has either been isolated or controlled before conducting maintenance and repair work on plant and equipment. We never remove, bypass, or modify a safety device without appropriate authorisation.

Look up.

We never knowingly walk or work under a suspended load. Exclusion zones are established if there is a risk of dropped objects striking people.

Working with electricity.

We do not conduct electrical work unless licensed and authorised.

Confined space entry.

We do not enter a confined space unless qualified, authorised, and competent.

Fitness for work.

We never attend work under the influence of alcohol and/or other drugs.

COVID-19 Safety

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we live and work. At BGC, the safety and wellbeing of our team, customers and contractors remains a top priority.

We have implemented numerous measures to ensure the safe continuity of operations across our business. Some controls in place include:

  • Increased cleaning across all BGC Housing Group displays.
  • In-house deep cleaning wherever necessary.
  • Social distancing across our workplace, construction sites and customer meetings.
  • Modified work methodology at sites to facilitate social distancing.
  • Ongoing monitoring of all sites to validate COVID compliance.
  • Regular check-ins with our team to support mental wellbeing.
  • Flexible work arrangements.
  • Increased personal time.

We re-assess our response to COVID-19 on a regular basis and can adapt swiftly to new restrictions and management measures in place.

Training

Our comprehensive training program ensures that we always have a fully qualified and capable workforce on task. Employee training is tailored to the individual’s role, and includes safety, leadership, and personal development as well as trade-specific education.

BGC’s behavioural based safety program ‘Improving Safety – one conversation at a time” empowers our entire workforce to take responsibility for their own safety and the safety of their team.
